Picture-in-Picture (PIP) is a feature that displays a smaller screen (inset window) with a different program while you’re watching another program on the main screen. Note: Picture-in-Picture is not available on all Spectrum receivers. To set up PIP: Press the PIP On/Off key on your remote.
PIP is a part of the broadcast, and so the broadcaster had to support it. Like all things, they eventually scrapped it, since as you say many sets no longer supported it. Since most things are no longer analog, you need a dual tuner in your TV to achieve this function.
