A – is the highest grade you can receive on an assignment, and it’s between 90% and 100% B – is still a pretty good grade! This is an above-average score, between 80% and 89% D – this is still a passing grade, and it’s between 59% and 69%
Someone could graduate with some ‘D’ grades, as long as there were enough A’s and B’s to keep the GPA above water. So if a destination school takes transfers on a course-by-course basis, D grades don’t count, but if they take the degree as a block, D’s do count.

In fact, a “D” is considered passing in both high school and college, as it’s above 60%. While a passing grade may be as low as 60%, you will want to aim higher for many reasons. As a college student, you don’t want to aim to barely pass a class.

2 answers. The best way to gauge how colleges might look at your grades is just to look at your GPA vs. average GPAs for that school. As a rule of thumb, one bad grade won’t tank your chances in most places, though a D might substantially lower your GPA because it’s adding such a low number to the average.
Is a 1.6 GPA good? The answer is No. The national average for a GPA is around 3.0 and a 1.6 GPA puts you below that average. Since this GPA is significantly below a 2.0, it will make things very difficult for you in the college application process.
