Yes, he dies a long time in the past, prompting Zeref to try to revive him, leading to Natsu becoming END (Etherious Natsu Dragneel), the “God” of Zeref’s demons.
Is Natsu still the end?
He is still END and he is also still human. At the end of FT, his life force with the book gets severed so that’s why he is able to live on after the book had disappeared. What happened in his head while he was out cold after he first transformed into END was that he consciously chose to be human and not demon.
